How Can We Experience Resurrection Power?

What Is Resurrection Power?

In many religions, prophets and leaders have died for what they thought and believed. What made Jesus unique is not His death but His resurrection. No one has ever seen a dead man overcome death through His own power. They even “sealed the tomb and posted guards to protect it” (Matthew 27:66), so the disciples would not steal the body and start rumors of Jesus’ resurrection.

Just as He promised, the grave could not hold Him. On the third day, He rose by defeating death because Jesus is God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Without the Spirit of Jesus, there is no resurrection.

How Can We Experience Resurrection Power?

Every year on Easter Sunday, Christians all over the world gather to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. For many, it has become just a yearly ritual that does not impact their daily lives. Let this Easter be different for each one of us and declare like Paul, “That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection” (Philippians 3:10). We can experience resurrection power when we take steps in our faith journey.

Experiencing the Power of Love

Our journey starts when we believe that Jesus died for our sins and rose from the dead. We also understand that Jesus died when we were still sinners. His death and resurrection demonstrate His amazing love for us and the power of love that overcame sin and death. After we put our faith in Jesus Christ, we are declared to be a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Experiencing the Power of Transformation

After believing in Him, we spend time with God to get to know Him through His Word: “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). We can experience transformation when we develop a habit of reading the Bible and even memorizing some scriptures.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
When Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness, He used scriptures to stand firm (Matthew 4:1-11). In Ephesians 6:17, the Word of God is described as "the sword of the Spirit."

We can also experience growth and transformation by learning about God’s Word through listening to others’ teachings. With the age of technology, it has become so easy to access Bible teachings. RightNow Media is provided through Chase Oaks and has great studies for everyone.

As we grow in Christ, we will start changing our lives to better reflect what we learn from His Word. In James 1:22, he tells us to “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

Every day, we have choices to make. And the best choices we can make is to live what we learn from God’s Word and teachings. This is how we experience true transformation.

Experiencing the Power of Connection

Prayer is a powerful way we connect to God as we communicate with Him. Jesus showed us how important prayer is throughout His earthly life. He also gave us an outline to follow in Matthew 6:9-13.

Because of Jesus’ sacrifice and love for us, we will never face separation from God again. We are connected with Him through the Holy Spirit that indwells us, and we can feel this connection as we talk to Him about our lives.

Experiencing the Power of His Presence

Worship and praise is another powerful way to communicate with God.

“Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, His marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; He is to be feared above all gods.” (1 Chronicles 16:23-25)
When God’s truth is combined with music, it becomes easy to remember and becomes engraved in our hearts. And when we come together to worship Him, we invite the presence of God, we feel the Holy Spirit move within us. Whatever circumstances we are facing, worship makes us focus on God and on His power and love. Everything seems small in the presence of our Creator.

As we prepare our hearts for Easter, remember we are celebrating the moment when Jesus gave us the power to experience hope, love, transformation, authentic connection, and the wonderful presence of God within us. The greatest gift came with the Holy Spirit as Christian Singer and Songwriter Jeremy Camp reminds us in "Same Power":

“The same power that rose Jesus from the grave

The same power that commands the dead to wake

Lives in us, lives in us.

The same power that moves mountains when He speaks

The same power that can calm a raging sea

Lives in us, lives in us.

—Jeremy Camp
