Discuss Together

  • If someone asked you for one piece of advice about dating and romance, what would you tell them?
  • This series is about Ruth, who became a widow early on in her life. Not only tragic and heart-breaking, this reality posed significant challenges for Ruth in her particular culture, including finding romance again. Our current culture presents challenges when it comes to dating and romance. What are some that come to your mind? What makes dating uniquely difficult in our day and age?
  • Read Ruth 2:1-13. What was it about Ruth that captured Boaz’s heart? Do you see anything in the text that explains why he was so drawn to her?
  • Did your criteria for a potential spouse change over time? If so, what caused it to change?
  • Jeff said, “The best way to find the person you are looking for is to become the person you are looking for.” What does it practically mean to become that type of person?
  • All of us are in process—none of us have arrived. Whether we’re married or single, we all have places we can grow. What is one area you feel compelled to focus on right now? Is it around your relationship with Jesus, your habits, your relationships, or something else?
  • What are the secrets or keys to keeping a marriage vibrant? What have you learned or observed?

Next Steps

No matter our relationship status, the God of the universe loves each of us more than we can possibly imagine. He is our ultimate guardian-redeemer who rescues us. Take a moment in silence to dwell on the love of God. Let Him speak into your heart and rest in His presence.
