DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
"Zootopia"
Choose the questions for your group; no pressure to use all of them.
Start Off
- Did anyone do any of the 5 daily practices from the last Group Guide, and if so, how did it go?
- Go around and have everyone share: When you were a child, what did you dream of becoming when you grew up? How has that dream changed over time?
- For a quick summary of the message, you can read the sermon notes on the main page of the Chase Oaks App.
Reflect on God’s Word
- Read Ephesians 2:10. What stands out to you about how God sees you and created you to be?
- Read Matthew 25:14-30. Why do you think the third servant chose to play it safe?
- Reread Matthew 25:23. Why is it difficult to remain faithful in small or unnoticed assignments?
- Read Luke 22:31-32. What encourages you about Jesus' response to Peter's failure?
Go Deeper
- Jeff's big idea was, "Stop letting what holds you back hold you back." Which of the three obstacles—fear, small beginnings, or failure—most often limits you?
- What risks might God be asking you to take right now?
- Where in your life do you need to focus on being faithful rather than frustrated?
- Share a time when God used a disappointment, failure, or setback to teach you something valuable.
- How does God's grace help us recover from mistakes?
- What is one specific step God may be inviting you to take this week to move past fear, embrace a small beginning, or overcome a failure?
Pray
- Pray for one another to trust God's purpose, take faith-filled steps, remain faithful in small things, and experience God's grace through failures and setbacks.
VERSE TO MEDITATE ON AND MEMORIZE THIS WEEK
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:10, NLT)
PUT IT INTO PRACTICE (BETWEEN MEETINGS)
Day 1: Remember Your Purpose
Read Ephesians 2:10. Reflect on the truth that God intentionally created you for a purpose. Write down three gifts, passions, or opportunities God has given you. Ask God to show you how He wants to use them. Pray: “God, help me see myself as your masterpiece and live with confidence in your purpose for my life."
Day 2: Face Your Fear
Read Matthew 25:24-29. Identify one fear that has been holding you back spiritually, relationally, or professionally. Write down one faith-filled action you've been avoiding. Take one small step toward it today. Pray: "Lord, give me courage to trust you more than my fears."
Day 3: Be Faithful in the Small Things
Read Matthew 25:23. Focus on excellence in the responsibilities God has already placed in front of you. Choose one ordinary task and do it with exceptional care and gratitude. Serve someone without expecting recognition. Pray: "God, help me honor you by being faithful in what you've entrusted to me today."
Day 4: Learn from Failure
Read Luke 22:31-32. Think about a past mistake or disappointment that still affects you. Ask yourself: What lesson can I learn from this experience? Write down one way God has grown you through it. Pray: “Jesus, thank you that my failures do not define me. Help me learn, grow, and move forward."
Day 5: Take the Next Step
Read Joshua 1:9. God's purpose is often discovered through action, not waiting. Identify one next step toward a dream, calling, ministry, relationship, or opportunity. Commit to taking that step this week. Pray: "Father, help me stop letting what holds me back hold me back. Give me faith to follow where you lead."
