Why Doubt Didn’t Disqualify Thomas Group Guide

October 2025

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Choose the questions for your group; no pressure to use all of them.

  1. If you had a chance to do one or more of the practices from last time, how did it go?

  2. Rey shared about his “boujee cats” and his skeptical personality. What’s something (or someone) in your life that you love but also drives you a little crazy?

  3. Rey said, “Doubt doesn’t have to be the enemy of faith; doubt is part of the faith journey.” When have you experienced doubt in your faith? What triggered it—disappointment, suffering, or intellectual questions?

  4. Why do you think many people feel ashamed or guilty for having doubts about God or faith?

  5. Read John 20:24–29. What stands out to you about this passage?

  6. How did Jesus respond to Thomas’ doubts?

  7. Rey said, “Doubt does not repel God from us. Doubt draws God to us.” How does this truth change the way you view your own seasons of doubt?

  8. Why do you think community is so important when we struggle with doubt, and how can our group be a safe place for honest conversations about doubt?

  9. What doubts or questions do you want to name before God today?

  10. End with the following: Rey challenged us to “keep moving forward” even with questions. After our group time, review the “Put it Into Practice” section for ideas on a next step you could take this week to move forward in faith.

  11. Share prayer requests and pray for one another, that God would meet each of you in your questions and use your doubts to deepen your faith.

VERSE TO MEDITATE ON AND MEMORIZE THIS WEEK

Then [Jesus] said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!” - John 20:27

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE (BETWEEN MEETINGS)

  1. Be Honest with God - Take time this week to name your doubts, disappointments, and frustrations to God. Write them down in a journal or even in a “complaint box” to God. Pray honestly: “God, here’s where I’m struggling. Meet me in this.”

  2. Stay Connected - Don’t isolate yourself when you wrestle with questions or pain. Reach out to a friend, pastor, or group member and share what you’re walking through. Be someone’s “safe person” — listen without judgment when others express their doubts.

  3. Look for Evidence of God’s Nearness - Reflect on moments when God has clearly shown up for you. Make a short list or voice note: “Ways I’ve seen God’s faithfulness.” Use it as a reminder when you start to lose your footing.

  4. Practice “Active Doubt” - Lean into your questions instead of running from them. Read, pray, seek counsel, or explore Scripture with curiosity. Ask, “What might God want to show me through this question?”

  5. Take One Small Step Forward - Faith often looks like taking one step when you don’t see the whole path. Keep showing up: to church, to group, to prayer, to conversation. Even baby steps count.
