When You're Tempted to Take the Low Road Group Guide

January 2026

Discussion Questions

Choose the questions for your group; no pressure to use all of them.

Start Off
  • As you look ahead to 2026, what is one area in your life in which you’d like to grow?

  • Growing up, who modeled integrity for you, either positively or negatively? How did that shape you?

  • When you think about the people you respect the most, what is one word you would use to describe why you respect them?

Reflect on God's Word
  • Read 1 Samuel 24 (you can go around and take turns reading 2-3 verses each).

  • In verse 4, David had a clear opportunity to eliminate Saul and end years of suffering. Why do you think that moment was such a powerful temptation?

  • Re-read verse 15. What was David’s motivation to exercise integrity under pressure and do the right thing?

  • What are some situations in which doing the right thing actually costs you something—time, money, comfort, reputation, or relationships?

Go Deeper
  • The big idea is “The right thing to do is always the right thing to do.” Why is this easy to agree with in theory but hard to live out in real life?

  • Which of these feels most relevant for your life right now: owning a wrong, telling the truth, walking away from temptation, keeping your word, taking the high road in a relationship, honoring a commitment, or trusting God in pain? And what would it look like, practically, to choose the right thing in that situation this week?

  • Integrity isn’t something you have; it’s something you choose. What is one small decision you can make this week that aligns with the story you want to be writing? How can this group support you in choosing the right thing when it’s hard?

Share and Pray
  • Take turns to share prayer requests and close in prayer. Ask God for clarity, courage, and humility to recognize temptation, own mistakes quickly, and trust him enough to choose integrity.

Verse to meditate on and memorize this week:

So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man. – Acts 24:16

Put It into Practice (Between Meetings)

  • Day 1 – The Story You’re Writing.  Read Proverbs 10:9. Every decision you make is shaping your story. Integrity isn’t about being perfect; it’s about choosing the right direction. Small choices today create the ending tomorrow. Pray: “God, help me choose integrity in today’s decisions.”

  • Day 2 – When the Right Thing Is Hard.  Read 1 Samuel 24:6. Doing the right thing often costs more than doing the easy thing. David trusted God’s timing instead of forcing an outcome. Integrity means trusting God even when waiting is painful. Pray: “Lord, help me trust you instead of taking control.”

  • Day 3 – Watch the Rationalizations. Read James 1:14-15. Temptation works through rationalization. What starts small can quietly pull us far off course. Integrity begins by calling wrong what it is. Pray: “God, expose my rationalizations and guide me in truth.”

  • Day 4 – Own It Quickly. Read Psalm 32:5. People of integrity don’t hide failure; they own it. Taking responsibility restores trust and realigns our hearts with God. Grace meets honesty. Pray: “Lord, give me humility to own my mistakes.”

  • Day 5 – Choose the Right Thing. Read Luke 16:10. Integrity is built one decision at a time. Choosing the right thing today shapes who you become tomorrow. The right thing is always the right thing. Pray: “God, help me choose the right thing today.”
