DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

"Project Hail Mary"
Choose the questions for your group; no pressure to use all of them.

Start Off

  • Did anyone try any of the five daily practices from the last Group Guide? If so, how was it?
  • This week’s movie “Project Hail Mary” is about a search. What’s something you've searched for recently (an answer, a job, a relationship, a purpose, etc.), and how did that search impact you?
  • For a quick summary of the message, you can check out “Sermon Notes” on main page of the Chase Oaks App.

Reflect on God’s Word

  • Read Matthew 7:7. What do you think it means to "keep on asking, seeking, and knocking"?
  • How have you experienced God meeting you during a season of searching?
  • What examples of sacrificial love have impacted your life?

Go Deeper

  • In the movie, Dr. Grace's curiosity allowed him to learn from someone completely different from himself. What keeps people from being curious today?
  • Eric shared a story about wishing he had been more open to counseling during a difficult season. Have you ever resisted help because it felt unfamiliar or uncomfortable? What did you learn from that experience?
  • How can curiosity strengthen our relationship with God and others?
  • Eric identified three common searches: a solution, a connection/relationship, and significance/identity. Which of these resonates most with you right now and why?
  • Eric said, "Meaning is found when we are a means to an end bigger than ourselves." What might that look like in your current season of life?
  • What is one specific act of curiosity and one specific act of courage God may be inviting you to practice this week?

Pray

  • Take turns to share things you are thankful for as well as prayer requests. Pray for one another: for open hearts to seek God with curiosity, courage to follow where he leads, and opportunities to serve others sacrificially.

VERSE TO MEDITATE ON AND MEMORIZE THIS WEEK

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7, NLT)

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE (BETWEEN MEETINGS)

Day 1 – Search with Curiosity

  • Read Matthew 7:7. Spend 10 minutes asking God questions you've been carrying. Write them down without trying to immediately solve them. Pray: "God, help me become a curious seeker who trusts that you welcome my questions."

Day 2 – Learn from Someone Different

  • Read Proverbs 18:15. Have a conversation with someone whose experiences, background, or perspective differs from yours. Ask thoughtful questions and listen well. Pray: "God, teach me through the people you place around me."

Day 3 – Look Beyond Yourself

  • Read Philippians 2:3-4. Identify one situation where you've been primarily focused on yourself. Ask, "How can I serve someone else in this situation?" Pray: "Jesus, help me shift my attention from myself to the needs of others."

Day 4 – Practice Courageous Love

  • Read John 15:13. Do one thing that requires courage for the benefit of another person (e.g., offer help, initiate a difficult conversation, forgive, encourage, or serve). Pray: "Lord, give me courage to love even when it costs me something."

Day 5 – Find Purpose Through Service

  • Read Matthew 16:25. Perform a meaningful act of service without expecting recognition or anything in return. Reflect on how it affected your perspective. Pray: "God, help me discover the life you promise by living for your purposes rather than my own."

Weekly Challenge
Throughout the week, ask yourself each morning, "How can I be more curious about God and more courageous in loving others today?" Record one answer each day and look for ways God surprises you through the journey.
