Pointing People To Jesus Group Guide

October 2025

Discussion Questions

Choose the questions for your group; no pressure to use all of them.

  1. Have you ever been invited to something (a church, party, event, or trip) that ended up changing your life in some way? What happened?

  2. How did you get connected to Chase Oaks? To this group?

  3. Read John 1:35-42. This passage introduces us to Andrew, who initially followed John the Baptist—someone unconventional and even a little “crazy”, and then at John’s prompting, followed Jesus. What does that say about Andrew’s hunger to seek truth and be teachable?

  4. On a side note, speaking of John the Baptist, our next baptism weekend is coming up on November 21-23. Would anyone like to share their baptism story? Is anyone thinking about getting baptized or have questions about baptism?

  5. After meeting Jesus, Andrew’s first move was to go find his brother and bring him to Jesus. Why do you think inviting Peter was so important to Andrew?

  6. Read John 12:20-22. Andrew helped bring Gentiles (outsiders) to Jesus. What does that tell us about God’s heart for all people?

  7. What keeps most Christians from inviting others to meet Jesus or come to church?

  8. Research shows that 80% of people who don’t attend church would come if someone invited them. How does that challenge or encourage you?

  9. Who in your life might need an invitation or introduction to Jesus?

  10. With Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, what are some natural, meaningful ways you could extend an invitation to church or to your group to experience God’s love?

  11. Take turns praying for the people you can invite to come and meet Jesus, and for the impact he could make in their lives if they say “yes” to your invitation.

Verse to meditate on and memorize this week:

Andrew went to find his brother, Simon, and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means “Christ”. Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus. John 1:41-42a

Put It into Practice (Between Meetings)

  1. Seek truth. Spend time this week in scripture, asking God to grow your hunger for what’s real and right, not just what’s popular or easy.

  2. Stay teachable. Invite the Holy Spirit to reveal areas where you’ve stopped listening or learning. Be willing to respond quickly when God prompts you, just like Andrew did when he heard, “Look, the Lamb of God!”

  3. Invite someone. Think of one person you could personally invite to experience Jesus, through a church service, group night, or simple conversation. Don’t worry about the outcome; focus on the obedience.

  4. Celebrate connections. Share stories of invitations and conversations in your group next week. Every invitation, big or small, is a victory for the kingdom.
