Inside Out 2 Group Guide

June 2025

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Choose the questions for your group; no pressure to use all of them.

  1. Getting Started: For Scripture verses related to the questions below, please see this week’s Sermon Notes.
  2. Icebreaker: Who was your favorite character in Inside Out 2 and why? Could you relate to their emotional journey?
  3. Reflection: Pastor Jeff said, “It’s okay not to be okay.” How does that statement land with you right now?
  4. Emotional Inventory: Think about the “emotion wheel” mentioned in the sermon. (Google the emotional wheel for reference if needed). Which emotions are you most comfortable expressing? Which ones do you tend to avoid?
  5. Personal Growth: Jeff admitted he used to swing people to the “silver lining” too quickly. What’s the downside of avoiding hard emotions? In what situations do you tend to do this?
  6. Scripture Focus: Read Philippians 4:4-7. What stands out to you most about Paul’s advice for anxiety?
  7. Spiritual Practice: The message encouraged us to “name it and trade it.” Does anyone have a story about a time when they did this?
  8. The Role of Anxiety: In the movie, Anxiety initially tries to help out. When does concern become harmful anxiety in your life?
  9. God’s Nearness: Philippians 4:5 says, “The Lord is near.” How do the two meanings of this statement shape the way you handle stress and uncertainty?
  10. Relational Impact: Jeff mentioned how anxiety can make us treat others poorly. Can you think of a relationship that’s been affected by your stress? What would it look like to “let your gentleness be evident” in that relationship?
  11. Next Steps: What’s one thing you want to do differently this week to “name it and trade it” when anxiety rises?

VERSE TO MEDITATE ON AND MEMORIZE THIS WEEK

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE (BETWEEN MEETINGS)

  • Last week we talked about being still with God. This is a reminder to really consider doing this exercise. Find a quiet place this week and set a timer on your phone for four minutes. Spend those four minutes in silence and listening to God.
  • Is there someone you think would be interested in hearing this message? Forward a link to our website (https://www.chaseoaks.org/messages) and invite them to watch or hear the message and then grab coffee to talk about it.
