Valentine’s Day is sometimes referred to as “Single-Awareness Day.” But it doesn’t have to be. Whether you are married, divorced, dating, or single, there are many ways you can still have fun while celebrating this day of love. Depending on your stage of life, we have found different ways you can celebrate Valentine’s Day this year!

For the Family

Looking for something fun to do with the whole family to celebrate Valentine’s Day? Well, there are a few events in the DFW area you can attend!

One free family-friendly event is Hearts in the Park at Klyde Warren Park in Dallas, TX. On Saturday, February 10, from 3:00-8:00 p.m., you can celebrate Valentine’s Day with your family with an evening filled with crafts, dance lessons, and a movie. The fun will be on the Ginsburg Family Great Lawn. For more information, visit Hearts in the Park.

Around Valentine’s Day, we always hear about dances for fathers and daughters and for mothers and sons. But this year, there will be a dance for the whole family! Denton Parks and Recreation Center will be hosting My Little Valentine Family Dance on Friday, February 9, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Denton Civic Center. There will be a live DJ, refreshments, photos, and more. For more information about pricing, visit My Little Valentine Family Dance.

You and your family can also spend a wonderful night strolling through a beautiful garden. On Wednesday, February 14, the Dallas Arboretum is hosting an event where your family can enjoy the garden, watch Beauty and the Beast, and grab a delicious dinner from a food truck. The tickets are discounted at $5, and the parking after 5:00 p.m. is free! For more information, visit Valentine’s Day Evening in the Garden.

If you are unable to make it to one of these events, plan a fun night at home. Cook a gourmet dinner (or one of the family’s favorites), bake (or buy) a decadent dessert, and rent a movie from Redbox for the whole family to watch. Or if your family loves some competition, have a few board games and card games for the family to play together.

For the Children

Whether you have small children at home or older children in school, there are Valentine’s Day events to fit your children’s needs. A great way to find an event near you is to search your local library’s and community center’s website or Facebook page.

If you have small children at home, a story time on Valentine’s Day is a great event for you to attend! On Wednesday, February 14, from 10:30-11:00 a.m., Sachse Public Library will be hosting its Valentine’s Day Story Time, where they will have a few Valentine’s-themed stories and crafts for your children to enjoy.

Do you have chocolate lovers in the family? On Thursday, February 8, the Allen Public Library is hosting Chocolate Art for children ages 8-12 years. From 4:30-5:30 p.m., the children will create works of art using chocolate as their medium. It could get messy, so have them wear clothes they can get dirty.

For the Couple

Need a night out, away from work or the children? There are plenty of ways to spend Valentine’s Day as a couple that will help you reconnect and relax from our fast-paced lives. One way is to spend an evening on the waters of Lake Ray Hubbard in Rockwall, TX. Harbor Lights will take you and your loved one on a 57-foot double decker boat as you cruise the waters of this beautiful lake. For Valentine’s Day, a special dinner will be served. Some of the items on the menu include sliced ribeye roast, crawfish ravioli topped with grilled shrimp, grilled zucchini and yellow squash, and of course, a Valentine’s Day favorite, chocolate-covered strawberries.
