A Partnership with New Hope Ministries
Making a difference is part of the Chase Oaks mission statement, and it can be done in many ways within our community. The Sloan Creek Campus partners with local ministries and businesses in the communities surrounding Allen, TX. This month, the Newby-Sampeck LifeGroup partnered with New Hope Ministries to help furnish the homes of two families.
We met on Saturday morning to gather and load furniture, mattresses, kitchen items, and decor into our vehicles and New Hope’s trailers. We divided into two teams and made the trip to Dallas and arrived at the apartment complex.
The families were directed to leave for the morning, and our teams began carrying all the home furnishings into the apartments. Upon getting everything into the homes, the teams started organizing furniture, making beds, setting the table, and hanging pictures. It was amazing to see empty apartments transformed into inviting, comfortable homes within a few hours! When the families returned, we were excited to see their reaction.
As the door opened and the little girl ran into her apartment, we watched her mom slowly move into the living room, holding her sleepy son, with a look of astonishment on her face. The emotion of seeing her once bare home filled with coordinated furnishings and decorated with colorful pictures was evident on her face as tears welled in her eyes. We exchanged greetings, hugs, and wishes for blessings in their new homes.
The Impact of New Hope Ministries
New Hope Ministries began with Olga and David Binford through Suncreek United Methodist Church in Allen, TX. Early in her life, Olga found herself in an empty apartment after leaving an abusive relationship. Grateful to be safe, she slept on the floor until a friend asked if she would like some donated furniture. This small act touched her deeply, and she was determined to pay it forward.
Since its beginning six years ago, New Hope Ministries has helped furnish the homes of 365 families in the Dallas metroplex. These families are referred to New Hope through several Dallas agencies that assist victims of sex trafficking and domestic violence as well as recent refugees. New Hope accepts all household donations: furniture, bedding, housewares, and decor. Donations are accepted at the church, and larger items can be picked up by appointment.
Seeing the impact that donated items can make in the lives of families starting over is extremely rewarding and a very tangible way to participate as a team in sharing the love of Christ to our neighbors.
As one mom expressed, “I can’t believe how happy we are despite our challenges. I really appreciate all of you for taking the time to do all this. Thank you, and honestly, God knows my needs, gift card, lamp, radio, kitchen stuff, dresser, everything. God will bless you more for helping people like me.”
If you would like to donate any items or participate in a home furnishing team, New Hope Ministries would welcome your contributions! You can contact them through their Facebook page or email them at .
