Fall is a great time of year to have fun with your family! The weather is cooler (but not too cold), the leaves are changing into beautiful colors, and there are so many local family fall events. You and your family can attend fall festivals, walk through the luscious gardens at the Dallas Arboretum, and do a fun run on Thanksgiving.
Mark your calendars for these five family fall events because they are going to be great opportunities to make fun memories you can cherish later when your children are grown!
Autumn at the Arboretum
From now through Thursday, October 31, the Dallas Arboretum is hosting their annual fall festival, Autumn at the Arboretum. There are stunning displays of Chrysanthemums, fall’s favorite flower, and 150,000 fall-blooming plants. Their internationally acclaimed Pumpkin Village has more than 90,000 pumpkins, squash, and gourds along with their Children’s Adventure Garden.
This year, their fall festival’s theme is “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” One of the best features will be their “Great Pumpkin” topiary. As you walk through the Arboretum, you will find the beloved comic characters from Charlie Brown. Guests can snap selfies with Charlie Brown and Peppermint Patty.
Every weekend, there will be special events at designated times such as live music, meet-and-greets with animals, tea parties, and trick-or-treating.
On Wednesday, October 30, from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., there will be a special celebration for Charlie Brown’s birthday in the garden. Local vendors will be selling cake and ice cream throughout the garden. And the children will enjoy lawn games such as a hula hoop contest and a potato sack race.
The cost of the event is $17 per adult and $12 per child. Children under 2 years are free. Some special events may require additional purchases. Get your tickets today!
Family Campout and Movie Night
The City of Allen is hosting their Family Campout and Movie Night on the weekend of October 12-13. Families are invited to camp out under the stars and enjoy an evening full of nighttime fun with camp traditions at Bethany Lakes Park.
After your family sets up the tent, you can enjoy your own picnic, play in the park, and watch a movie in their amphitheater. In-N-Out Burger will be onsite to pass out burgers, chips, and a drink to all registered participants.
The fun begins on Saturday, October 12, at 3:00 p.m., and wraps up on Sunday, October 13, at 9:00 a.m. The cost is $10 per participant. Children 2 years and under are free. Registration is required, so save your spot today! What a great time for your family to get away from all the everyday distractions right in our community!
Especially Needed Fall Carnival
Especially Needed is a nonprofit organization in McKinney, Texas, that hosts events and activities throughout the year for children and adults with special needs and their families. Their mission is to build a strong community where individuals with special needs are valued, respected, and included.
One of the founder’s favorite activities is “Trick-or-Treat Street” where they decorate a field to look like a neighborhood street and families can make their way down the path collecting candy and other surprises from their great volunteers! Children and adults are encouraged to wear their costumes (as long as they are appropriate and not scary!).
Especially Needed brings the fun for individuals with special needs and their families. To ensure there is fun for everyone, Especially Needed asks families to register for this free event. There are two different time slots you can sign up for! Choose a time, register (for free!), and then show up for a night your family will love!
Wylie Fall Festival and Pumpkin Toss
In-Sync Exotics in Wylie, TX, will host one of the most unique family fall events in town. Their Fall Festival and Pumpkin Toss is on Saturday, November 2, starting at 11:00 a.m. The cats will get pumpkins at 2:00 p.m.
While you are waiting for the cats to get their pumpkins, you can enjoy activities such as games, a cake walk, face painting, bounce houses, and crafts. There will also be a raffle and live music. Concessions are available for purchase.
The cost of the event is $12 per adult and $8 per child (4-12 years). Children under 4 years are free. Reserve your tickets online. Because of their facility, In-Sync Exotics asks for no costumes. Just come out and enjoy the cats and crafts!
For the active family, the Dallas YMCA is inviting you to participate in a family-friendly run/walk to kick off Thanksgiving. The Turkey Trot begins at 9:00 a.m. at Dallas City Hall on Thursday, November 28. The trot offers races for each type of runner.
For the serious runners, the trot offers certified 5K and 8-mile races. The 5K can also be great as a walk or a jog for new runners, families with children of all ages, and friends who just want to run with you.
There is also a 1K Junior Trot for children ages 6-11 years. You can even purchase a Turkey Trot Combo that allows your children to enjoy the 1K and the 5K with you. All Junior Trot finishers will receive a 2019 Turkey Trot t-shirt, a goody bag, and a special medal. And if you sign up for the VIP package, your family can enjoy breakfast and bounce houses before the race.
After the race, your family can have fun in the Family Area doing crafts, jumping in bounce houses, and getting their face painted. It can be a day of fitness and fun for the whole family.
All proceeds go to support community programs at the Dallas YMCA such as the YMCA’s after school program. The last day to register for this fun run is Wednesday, November 27. It will close at 6:00 p.m. You can register on the day of the race from 7:00-8:50 a.m. at the event.
