Hardships and struggles can pull us down. We don’t want to sink under the weight of our circumstances, but we know how easily that can happen. Then, when we combine our own personal struggles with the discouraging realities of living in our culture, it can seem like the path of following Jesus is an increasingly difficult path to take. Our culture and our circumstances can leave us despondent and angry.

In the New Testament, 1 Peter challenges us to not lose hope and to embrace the challenge of living for Jesus. God wants so much more for us than to simply survive hard times; He wants us to thrive through difficulty and challenge. We may desperately want God to make our lives easier, but instead, God offers a life that is purposeful and rich with significance. The path of Jesus is difficult but worth it.
