Fall is a great time of year to have fun with your family! The weather is cooler (but not too cold), the leaves are changing into beautiful colors, and there are so many local family-friendly fall events. You and your family can attend fall festivals, walk through the luscious gardens at the Dallas Arboretum, and do a fun run on Thanksgiving.

Mark your calendars for these five family-friendly fall events because they are going to be great opportunities to make fun memories you can cherish later when your children are grown!

1. Autumn at the Arboretum

From now through Wednesday, November 21, the Dallas Arboretum is hosting their annual fall festival, Autumn at the Arboretum. There are stunning displays of Chrysanthemums, fall’s favorite flower, and 150,000 fall-blooming plants. Their internationally acclaimed Pumpkin Village has more than 90,000 pumpkins, squash, and gourds along with their Children’s Adventure Garden.

This year, they will take you on a special journey through “The Adventures in Neverland,” inspired by Peter Pan and the book, Peter and Wendy. You will walk through scenes from the book with your favorite characters. Every weekend will have special events at designated times such as live music, meet-and-greets with animals, tea parties, and trick-or-treating.

The cost of the event is $15 per adult and $10 per child. Children under 2 are free. Some special events may require additional purchases. Get your tickets today!

2. Trunk-or-Treat at Chase Oaks

Chase Oaks Church Legacy Campus is hosting its first trunk-or-treat on Saturday, October 27, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. There will be free candy and hot dogs and fun trunks! This is one of our great family-friendly fall events where your child can come dressed in their costume.

The fun will take place in the Legacy Campus West Parking Lot. Invite your friends and neighbors to come and enjoy some trunks and treats!

3. Wylie Fall Festival and Pumpkin Toss

In-Sync Exotics in Wylie, TX, will host one of the most unique family-friendly fall events. Their fall festival and pumpkin toss is on Saturday, November 3, from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. The cats will get pumpkins at 2:00 p.m. While you are waiting for the cats to get their pumpkins, you can enjoy activities such as games, a cake walk, face painting, bounce houses, and crafts. There will also be a raffle and live music. Concessions are available for purchase.

The cost of the event is $12 per adult and $8 per child. Children under 4 are free. Reserve your tickets online. Because of their facility, In-Sync Exotics asks for no costumes. Just come out and enjoy the cats and crafts!

4. Treats with the Turkey

One of our family-friendly fall events will give your family the opportunity to make a difference. On Saturday, November 3, from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., the Heritage Farmstead Museum in Plano, TX, is hosting a fall fundraiser for the Plano Fire Rescue Associates called Treats with the Turkey. There will be breakfast burritos, photo opportunities with the turkey, Perot’s TECH truck, fire clowns, and activities such as face painting and a photo booth.

Admission is $5 per person. All proceeds will benefit Plano Fire Rescue Associates’ scholarship program. Your family will have a great time enjoying treats with the turkey and will make a difference in our community.

5. Turkey Trot

For the active family, the Dallas YMCA is inviting you to participate in a family-friendly run/walk to kick off Thanksgiving. The Turkey Trot begins at 9:00 a.m. at Dallas City Hall on Thursday, November 22. The trot offers races for each type of runner.

For the serious runners, the trot offers certified 5K and 8-mile races. The 5K can also be great as a walk or a jog for new runners, families with children of all ages, and friends who just want to enjoy the fall weather with you.

There is also a 1K Junior Trot for children ages 6-11 years. You can even purchase a Turkey Trot Combo that allows your children to enjoy the 1K and the 5K with you. All Junior Trot finishers will receive a 2018 Turkey Trot t-shirt, a goody bag, and a special medal. And if you sign up for the VIP package, your family can enjoy breakfast and bounce houses before the race.

After the race, your family can have fun in the Family Area doing crafts, jumping in bounce houses, and getting your faces painted. It can be a day of fitness and fun for the whole family.

All proceeds go to support community programs at the Dallas YMCA such as the YMCA’s after school program. The last day to register for this fun run is Wednesday, November 21. It will close at 6:00 p.m. You can register on the day of the race from 7:00-8:50 a.m. at the event.
