I love Christmas! I love the decorations, parties, and presents. I love the songs, classic Christmas movies, and the family gatherings on Christmas Eve. Mostly, I love to cherish the miracle of God becoming human in the baby Jesus.
Yet, I must confess, often the busyness of the Christmas season has made it hard for me to focus on what matters most. My attempts to make Him “the reason for the season” typically fall far short.
Then, I discovered the season of Advent. For centuries, many Christian traditions have set apart the weeks before Christmas as a special season of preparing for the birth of Jesus. It is a way of anticipating God’s coming to us in the flesh. Making space in my life to take a few moments and ponder the huge impact of this moment in history and to anticipate His second Advent, or coming, have proven to be not only fulfilling but calming in one of the busiest seasons of the year.
To find the true spirit of Advent, I did some research on the significance of Advent and its traditions. That is when I thought it would be amazing to celebrate Advent with others this Christmas season.
I would love to celebrate this wondrous season with you. You and your family can discover the true spirit of Advent by participating in Advent at Chase Oaks. In our Advent guide, you will find passages from Scripture, family-friendly videos, additional activities, including ways you can create your own Advent wreath.
You can go through the entire guide or just use parts of it. As you read the Bible and watch the videos, enjoy some space with the questions and perhaps light a candle on your Advent wreath. If you have children, you may want to include an activity during the week to keep the theme present in your home.
I pray your Christmas season will be full of life and wonder as you embrace this Advent season and prepare for Christ’s coming! I pray that you, too, discover the true spirit of Advent.
Stay tuned to our blog for upcoming activities you and your family can do this Advent season.
