Bible Memory Verses Made Simple for Your Family

With stay-at-home orders in place, many of us may have found some extra time on our hands. What’s a better way to use that time than to equip yourself and your family with the truth of God’s Word? This simple method will help you learn Bible memory verses. You can easily memorize Scripture, poetry, and more with your kids.

The 50 Times Method for Bible Memory Verses

  1. Choose a passage. We included some passages aimed at elementary-aged kids to get started below.
  2. Read the passage aloud 50 times.
That’s all you have to do! This works.

Memorization Tips

  1. The passage must be read aloud. A combination of the rote memorization and muscle memory makes this method work.
  1. Reciting the verse 50 times does not have to be done in one sitting. Say the verse or passage 10 times each day throughout the week. After you accomplish this, feel free to add a new verse or an addition to the current verse/passage. For longer passages, you can read aloud 1-2 times per day until you reach 50 repetitions.
  1. Each person needs his or her own copy of Scripture—that way everyone can sit together and read aloud. This also allows each person to mark a tally each time they’ve read it aloud.

Verses to Help You Get Started

  • John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
  • John 10:27: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
  • John 13:34-35: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
  • John 14:6: “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
  • Galatians 5:22-23: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Are You Ready for a Bigger Challenge?

A Psalm of David

“The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever” (Psalm 23).

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in Heaven,

Hallowed by thy name.

Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done,

On earth, as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespasses against us.

Lead us not into temptation

But deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the power

And the glory, forever and ever.

Amen.

These Bible memory verses can be broken down into smaller sections and added to or tackled all at once. Either way, reciting them 50 times will work! Have a favorite verse? Do that one! Have a favorite poem or passage from a book? It works for that, too! Happy memorizing, friends!
